Environmental Justice
As members of Gen Z we are uniquely situated at the crossroads of the causes and effects of the climate crisis. Generations before ours have ignored climate change for the sake of profit and progress, alienating minorities who saw the very real effects of their greed, in the process.
It is this intersectionality of the many things I care about that has led me to be so uniquely passionate about the environment. Because yes, I love this Earth and the many species that inhabit it, but I also am interested in the overlap of environmentalism and feminism, anti-capitalism, social justice, and the fight against colonialist greed-filled ideals. I also love history and I’ve seen how our current exploitive society has evolved to the point that we continue to forget what is truly important.
It is for all these reasons that I have never been able to ignore climate change and why being an environmentalist is such a big part of my identity: because fighting for the environment is also fighting for social justice and for a better world. When I grow up I definitely want to continue environmentalism as a job, but for now, I am really interested in getting involved in the local climate movement to show the world that one is never too young to make a difference.
The climate action that I am most proud of is being a plaintiff in the constitutional lawsuit Genesis B. v. EPA (read more about that!)
